ALL ABOUT MY HAPPENINGS
Temperatures have been crazy in many of parts of the country. Here they have been 100° with the average 104° with heat indexes between 110-114°. The hot weather has also hit me in the pocket. I had to replace my outside air conditioner for my home. Two week later and
I had to have my unit in the studio repaired. Fortunately for most of you Summer is close to over. Here it normally doesn't cool off til Halloween. On the blessed side I've had plenty of time to be inside and work on my art. I'm really into mixed media collage. It's becoming part of my style.
CREATIVE THOUGHTS
So many artist worry about finding their "style". What does an artist style mean to you? Does it mean a theme of painting such as landscape, intuitive, portrait, abstract, or pop art? Does it have to do with your painting techniques? How you do your mark making or lay down your brush strokes? Do you prefer a pallet knife or some odd tool from the hardware store? What it comes down to in my opinion is all of this including your little rituals make up your style. No two people lay a brush stroke down the same. The same with finger painting. No two people have the same finger prints. So loosen up and play with everything that interest you. Try the oils, pastels, and the inks. The skies the limit If you become obsessed with a certain technique or product then push it to the limit. It doesn't mean you have to paint that way forever, but think about what you will learn and what direction it may send you in next. Have fun while you're learning.
IT TAKES GUTS
Yes if you are doing something creative, artwork, sewing, furniture painting, or crafts. It can be hard to put yourself out there, but take a baby step towards your goal. Do that one little thing you have been putting off and go for it. Especially if you're like me and in your retirement years. Find something creative to explore. After all you don't want to spend the next twenty years sitting in front of the tv.
SHINY OBJECTS
I've been working on small works of art that I have turned into greeting cards. Each one is an original and are in sets of four. They are available on my website. if you're interested or need a unique gift for someone. I also have my mixed media collage available at Marrietta Makery, in Marietta, Ohio. If you live in the area, please stop by and see Greta's special little gallery boutique. It's fabulous.
